Jesus Is The Lord...     1 Cor 12:3

Water Baptism

After a person has been Born Again; (believed in the one and only Son of God Jesus as their Lord and Savior and prayed a Sinners Prayer), then the next thing that should be done according to the scriptures is water baptism.

First of all, what is baptism?

Water Baptism is the physical act of getting in some water and having another christian place you under the water and making a statment such as "I baptize you in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit".

This act (Water Baptism), is a symbol representing the death, burial and ressurrection of Jesus.

Some people teach that you must be baptized to be saved, THIS IS NOT TRUE.

It is only a symbol of salvation, not the salvation itself.

Although Water Baptism does not Save the Soul, we are commanded to be baptized by the Lord Jesus Himself, so if you have not been baptized, you need to be for the sake of being obedient.

These are the basics on being baptized in water...

Sprinkling water or full submersion?

Which way is right?

Lets look at a scripture where John the Baptist is speaking to the people and review the root words in the Greek Language...

Matthew 3:11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance. but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire

All definitions are derived from the Strong's Cordanace

#1. Repentance #3341

Reversal of one’s decision

#2. Unto # 1519

To or into indicating a point reached or entered

#3a. Baptize/d, baptizeth, baptizest, baptizing #907

“to make whelmed” (fully wet)

#3b. From root word # 911

“To cover wholly with water”

Therefore, when looking at the key words in the scripture on the subject of baptism we see that it is full submersion in water, and it is after one has repented and believed in the Lord Jesus Christ

So... your ready to be Baptized.

Q.  Who can Baptize?

A.  Anyone who is a christian.

I recommend that it be someone that is older and wiser in the Word of God, but, anyone who confesses that Jesus is their Lord has the authority to use His name to baptize.

Q. Where can I be Baptized?

A. Anywhere there is water.

Just find an area deep enough to be fully submersed. If you have a shallow pool to use then you could sit and have the baptizor lay you down just under the surface and then help you back up.

Q. Where in the Bible does it say that it represents the Death, Burial, and Resurection of Jesus?

A.  Romans 6:3-6

Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.

How to be Baptized?

  1. Find some water
  2. Have another Believer with you
  3. (Note:) Have a change of clothes for afterwards
  4. Have the Baptizor place you in the water stating the Baptism,

For Example: As you are standing or sitting in the water, the Baptizor would say something like: "I baptize you in the name of the Father Jehovah, the Son Jesus, and the Holy Spirit". Then you would be placed under the water's surface for a moment then raised out of the water.

NOTE: I believe it is important to use the actual names of God; not just saying in the name of the son, but to actually use His name Jesus or Yeshua the hebrew name.

Matthew 28:19  Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

The words: the father, the son, and the holy spirit are words showing their positions of authority and leadership.

These are the ones that I tend to use the most.

God the Father: Jehovah, Yahweh.

God the Son: Jesus, Yeshua

God the Spirit: Holy Spirit, Holy Ghost

Misc. Scriptures on Baptism

Matthew 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

Mark 16:15-16 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Acts 8:12 But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women

Acts 8:36-39 And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized? And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him. And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing.
